Humphrey Piano - 31253

Post by awayland »

I have a Humphrey (London) upright (I think from AE Humphrey but not sure)- number 31253. It is also marked with "L.Niebour & Son, Pianoforte Merchants, Kingston-on-Thames". Could anyone help with a date of manufacture and any other details about the make?

Niebour appears in some of our directory lists of piano firms:
1886 Not listed.
1894 Not listed.
1899 Kelly’s Directory; Pianoforte Makers & Warehouses include Louis Niebour, 3 & 5 St. James Road & Clarence Street, Kingston-On-Thames.
1911 Louis Niebour, 59b Clarence Street, Kinston-On-Thames.
1914 L.C. Niebour & Son, Clarence treet, Piano dealers.
1928 Not listed.
1936 Not listed.
1938 Not listed in Kingston-On-Thames.

This sugests that "& Son" would be after 1911, and before 1928, so it is quite possible that the firm ceased after the 1914-18 war. See
