How to choose a Piano teacher?

I need a Piano teacher who has a piano that can teach above Grade 5.
What do I need to check/ask to ensure s/he is well-qualified?
And price/duration of each lesson?
And that they are good, patient and can easily get along with?
Thks!

Look on the list on the UK piano Page! You can also try Yellow Pages and
www.musicteachers.com (I think - that's from memory!) and at your local music shop. However, the best way is always recommendation. Ask someone who's already having/had lessons, or whose children learn. If you contact a teacher, ask if they'd consider a trial lesson to see if you'll get on; I know my own teacher doesn't mind doing this!
Have fun

Thks for this Gill.
Had no luck with that link or search on google.
Anyway, all the yellow pages said for this Music Teacher was LRAM(?) in my town. And each time I ring the number it always goes to voicemail - sigh.
But thks again.

for a teacher to be a good teacher above grade 5 he or she needs to have a good awareness and interpretation of the music because above grade 5 the examiners mark your performance differently. They mark your performance on interpretation mainly. What I advise you to do is to find some new teachers that you are interested in and bring a piece you know well-a good teacher will be able to point out a lot of areas of improvement such as technique, phrasing, what the moods generated throughout the music and interpretation not only just suggest that "it needs to be louder here and softer there".
Hope that gives you some more help in choosing the right teacher!
