Ibach Grand Piano removing the agraffes

Post by sallybea »

Is it possible to remove one section of Agraph's from an Ibach Grand Piano? The original ones are water damaged and some have corroded. How do you remove them and where can you buy replacements? Is a special tool needed to remove the damaged Agraph's or is heat required?

Thank you.

First, you need to remove the strings

Then you will need an agraffe removal tool V268

When removing the agraffes there will be underneath the agraffe thin spacer washers you need to count them for each note as they will need to be put back, some get stuck to the frame its best to put them on a wire for each note, as some can be stuck together. You may have to buy some new washers as well as the new agraffe may not match.

once you have removed the agraffes you may be able to clean them on a buffing wheel and use a pipe cleaner to clean out the holes. To clean them on a buffing wheel you need to make a gig to hold them. This is a piece of hardwood dowel with a hole drilled in the end smaller than the agraffe thread, you screw them into the dowel
