frame castings

Tuned a 1910 ish s/strung piano today Wilson Nottingham or some such trade piano.
It's 3/4 frame but the false bit of old iron round the wrest plank has their name cast in it. In those days was it usual to get that done to make it look as tho' you'd built it.

Although there was a Trade Description Act in 1892 it still bears a sticker saying " Tape check, iron frame!"

Well, it is an iron frame, just not a full iron frame, and as you will know, even "Full" is often misleading, because most are not "All-over" iron frames, and even "All-over" doesn't actually mean it's all over the piano!

Wilson Peck & Co. were in Nottingham, and when I heard that Wilson Peck were "closing their doors for ever" in 2001, I phoned them to ask about historical information. They said they had no archives, and no paperwork about their pianos.
