Anniversaries

Post by chrisw »

It is forty years today since I starting working for my present employer (and its predecessors) and with just one more job to do I shall be heading for full retirement in the next month or so. This will give more time to learn new piano pieces but more importantly practice first thing in the morning when I am more receptive.

It is also forty three years ago to the day that I started some postgraduate work and found myself in a hostel with a piano in the hall way with just one moth eaten piece of music, Forgotten Dreams by Leroy Anderson. I had mostly forgotten how to read music but knew where middle C was, working the rest out thus making my return to the world of piano.

Happy Anniversary! Can you still play 'Forgotten Dreams'? Weird how things like that can set you off...my mum and dad bought an old piano stool with old sheet music in to go with my 'new' (old!!!) piano. I remember the wonder when I realised that middle c in my first piano book was Exactly The Same as middle c in 'Tulips and Heather' from the piano stool (with Jimmy Young on the front, aged about 2). That was when the sightreading button in my brain got pressed...
I play for my own amazement... :piano;

Thank you, Gill the Piano.

I still, occasionally, play Forgotten Dreams. Did so this morning whilst feeling quite emotional !
