Haake Baby Grand

Post by russtobin »

Hi there I'm new to this forum so here goes.

I'm trying to research a Haake baby grand piano owned by my sister that we know very little about.

Was wondering if there is anybody out there prepared to help us with our research?

Somewhere along the line someone has alleged that the piano came from Churchill's war room although we have no provenance to prove that.

The piano is in excellent condition and I believe it may have been restored as recently as 2006.

Any offers of help greatly received thank you.

Regards

What sort of research do you have in mind?

If you are talking about researching the Churchill connection, there are no archives for Haake, as with most piano makers, and your best hope with that is some sort of historical mention on the internet.

Ordinary searches do not reach all sources, some websites have to be searched individually, and the problem is knowing which ones to look at.

My 1928 volume of Musique Adresses Universel does not list Haake, so presumably they had finished by then. That would suggest that Churchill must have had it secondhand.

Why not contact the War Room Museum direct and ask the question? There are contemporary photographs now made public - you never know!
I play for my own amazement... :piano;

Can't imagine anybody had time to tinkle the ivories in the War Room what with all the bombs,bombes and bombast. Especially with a german joanna.
Our mission in life is to tune customers--not pianos.

Any fool can make a piano-- it needs a tuner to put the music in it
