John Brinsmead and Sons piano.

Hello to one and all on the Forum,
My wife has a beautiful old John Brinsmead and Sons upright grand that I would very much like to know a bit more about if possible. It apparently is a type W and had the serial numbers of 949 stamped on the two vertical wood frames in the back. Any help as to the year and relative value would be very much appreciated.

949 is not the serial number, but it could be the last 3 digits of the serial number. Simply by opening the top, you should be able to see a longer number, or several.

Thank you for that Bill, and I finally managed to find some numbers that are the right ones I hope 79658 on the top of the right side panel, but a will send a few photos if you like.

That number would suggest about 1921, but it is not always simple dating pianos purely on the basis of numbers, so it would be nice to see what the WHOLE piano looks like.

I am sorry I missed your question about value. Nobody anywhere can guess the value or condition of a piano without inspecting it on the spot, and tuning it, so your local tuner is the best person to ask.

My estimate from the photo would be 1919, so the number is probably correct in suggesting 1921, and this style was common in the twenties.
