[Gill the Piano]

Tuned one today, looks to be 1900/1905 ish, but the numbers were completely out of whack with Pierce (quell surprise). The number inside was 13407 and Pierce doesn't list anything like that number. It's definitely not a stock number. Any ideas please, Bill?

Mark Wakeford tells me that the following numbers (instruments manufactured) are given in an article in the Zeitschrift fuer Instrumentenbau vol. 48, 1927-28, page 303.

#1000 November 1881
#25000 October 1901
#50000 April 1912
#57000 1914 - Outbreak of War (presumably August 1914) - around 57,000.

On that basis, it might be around 1884, but as you can read on my page at

there are some around 12000 in 1934! The earlier ones don't make much sense either. Your best bet is if the action is marked with the action makers' name and number.
