By special appointment to the king of portugal
Hello there!
we've had our piano for a few years now, it was bought second hand and was wondering if anyone can help us with some information on the history of it?
its a cramer piano, we aren't sure where to find the serial number but there is a badge on the inside which reads
'by special appointment to H.M the king of portugal'
if anyone can tell us what that badge means or where it would of come from that would be great!
thanks
Sam

It simply means that Cramer supplied at least one piano to the King of Portugal, this message appears on hundreds or thousands of Cramer pianos. Some information on royal appointments may be found at
http://pianohistory.info/names.html
There may be dates inside the piano, see
http://pianohistory.info/datemarks.html
Often the serial number can be seen just by lifting the top of the piano.
