Hello everyone:

Does anybody know if there is a vaguely affordable edition of the complete Scarlatti sonatas?

I have the Schirmer Kirkpatrick 60 sonatas, as well as the Dover 4 volumes, but I still miss some.

Alternatively, are there other good selections recommended.

Selecting and buying any volume of sonatas/ sonatinas by any composer is a matter of personal taste for editions - and sometimes ones that are recommended by exam boards/ music festivals and teachers.

There is no such thing as a "bargain hunt version" of sonatas unless you visit the odd charity shop/ ebay etc. .... and no one will be remotely interested in providing you with an "affordable" edition?? .... how much is affordable?.... thats up to you to decide.

I myself use the publishers "Edition Peters" of Germany [band 1& 2]. Clear notation, fingering shown, suggested metronome markings, bar numbers labelled at the start of each stave.... who cares how much they cost!!

Scarlatti composed over 500 keyboard sonatas, so it is unlikely you will get a single set of all of them.
Various publishers have issued selections of them. I suggest you 'google' : 'Scarlatti keyboard sonatas/scores' and see what comes up. Alternatively look at publishers' catalogues e.g. Barenreiter, Henle, Vienna Urtext, Peters, etc.

I think about 555 sonatas?
Imagine them all binded into one book - there would be horrendous page stability & page turning problems and even fitting the book onto the music rest!

Thanks I will look at the Peters edition - I agree cost is a relative thing. I will also look at the Kalmus edition.
