Maver & Sons
Post by mintcondition »
I have acquired a beautiful old piano that I need some help identifying. Under the keys lid it says manufactured for Robert Maver & Sons 97, West George St, Glasgow. It is an upright with inlaid wood and birdcage action. I tried to attach a few photos but it says invalid. I have plenty if there is someone who can help me.
Thank you
Thank you

Putting your email address on the net will encourage junk mail, that's why the forum has an email button for you. The photos are probably too big, try reducing them to 25% scale, or email them to me and I will put them up for you. Robert Maver dates back to the 1860s, but Maver & Son indicates a date after 1886, and the address would be after 1894, so have a look at

Retailers often put their names onto pianos, as you can read at

so it is sometimes not possible to identify the maker.

Here are the photos, I would guess it was made around 1918, with an incised top door design, and a central inlaid floral design. The sconces are missing.
