Bansall U/R Piano No.91048

Post by Hugh »

I own the above piano which was complete renovated (mechanism) in 1995 after we were told it was worth doing (£881). We weren't sure but restored it out of 'respect' as it were for a musical instrument. Our children learnt to grade 3 and then sadly gave up. The piano has a nice sound and has been in the family for many years (we can trace it back we think about 80 years) and I am just thinking about taking lessons myself (at 60!)although I play other instruments. It plays well and is in tune. I was wondering if anyone had any idea of the approximate year of make. It is a relatively simple instrument with no extensive decoration and relatively small in comparison to other uprigths I have seen - no candlesticks. Inside is a light 'wine' colour stain under the lid but externally it has darkened. Many thanks to anyone who can help. Regards.

If you look at the information I have written halfway down the page at
http://pianogen.org/numbers.html
you will see that 94000 is 1925, and yours would be about 1924. There is probably a date under the keys, as described at
http://pianogen.org/datemarks.html

Just wanted to say many thanks for the information and the very speedy response. Greatly appreciated. 1925ish ties in with what we thought as we understand the piano was an engagement gift for a Mrs Mabel Missendon who used to play around the Whitchurch area in amateur shows about that time. Given the old music we have she must have been a very good pianist. When she passed away the piano came to my mother and then myself. Glad we had the mechanism restored and now for teh french polish. Thanks again. Regards, Hugh
