Squire & Son piano from Paterson & Sons
Post by Bill Kibby »
Don't apoloogise, this is the place! Briefly, B. Squire and Son (or Sons) were London piano makers, Paterson & Sons were scottish dealers. Squire was at 3 Stanhope Street until the late 1870s, when it was 3 & 5 Stanhope Street. Changes in name can overlap dates, but it was originally "& SONS" until about the same time, when it became "& SON". Turning to the various Paterson names, it seems that Paterson & Roy became Paterson & Sons in 1851, and remained so into the 1900s. Any more clues would be inside the piano, numbers don't help. I can quote for printing general booklets on the Paterson and Squire firms.
