'O Christmas Tree'. Have to play it tomorrow, can't find the music in a carol book but HAVE got it (as the Red Flag) in The Communist Songbook. I'm going to leave it prominently on the music stand and see who reacts first...I think communists are usually shot on sight in Maidenhead.

Oddly enough, I was trying to sightread it earlier today from the John Thompson First Christmas Tunes ('O Tannenbaum') but I had to break it down into LH RH and put the two together as it was a little difficult. Yet I should not have had any trouble playing The Red Flag, I am a former member of the Labour Party after all!

We had the Labour Party Songbook in the shop this year, containing the sheet music for the Red Flag and many other folk songs from around Britain and songs popular with the working classes at the time of publication.

I did say to my wife at that pub in Hambleden when you were ordering the food that if word got out there was a left-wing adversary - from Birmingham of all places - in the village gastropub, we'd never leave it alive...

Have you tried going into the sound module on your PC? (usually in the toolbar on bottom right) or accessing it via Control Panel?? Failing that if it's just for Youtube, at the bottom of the standard video player there is a sound control icon you need to look out for that sometimes mutes itself.

I think it might be 'Afternoons and Coffeespoons' by the Crash Test Dummies from 1994 today as I found this CD downstairs which was unmarked, so I've just put it on and that's what was on it. Must have been quite old as I gave up on pop music months ago.....

UPDATE the computer data tells me the mix was done in January 14 but it wasn't a very good mix. Iron Maiden follows Enigma 'Sadeness part 1'. Like a bad Yorkshire pudding mix. In fact I think that's what I'll call it.

Today's earworm is a John Rutter jobbie that I have to play for a choir. And it sounds so very very similar to another JR carol that I'm worried I might launch into that one instead. I think he's running out of ideas!

My friend went up to Brum to see it a week last Friday and took her reluctant achingly cool computer freak of a grandson. He was transfixed and wanted the album and video IMMEDIATELY. I had hitherto believed him bereft of any aesthetic taste at all...amazing.

Today it's been 'Gertcha!'. Would have been ideal to play in the shop on my next mixtape, if only there are references to the use of the expression 'ancient bovine mammal' as a male to female insult, quite common with cockneys apparently. Arthur Daley, E's Alright by The Firm is slightly more PC.

I'm listening to another old chestnut 'Wasted Country' by Gail Anne Dorsey, which I got in a pile of 7 inch singles I won from a competition on now-defunct Radio Wyvern over 25 years ago.

I think I'll change my surname, from now on I'll be David Cowson. Not 'cos I've got any more or any less rabbit than Sainsbury's (I've never been sure of the origins of that expression, or whether Sainsburys have demanded any royalty payments from that 'rabbit' song).

As a footnote to Jerusalem, it was on Prince William and Princess Catherine's wedding DVD wot I made. Again should have been Britain's green and pleasant land, as his family reign in Scotland, Wales and six Irish counties as well as England - constitutional fact!

Today however it has been 'Working Girl' by Rita Macneill. When it came out, I was a working boy at a cash and carry in Shrewsbury and one of the girls said 'Dave you must hear this song, it was on Top of the Pops last night and it was by Rita McGovern'. I looked all through Our Price for Rita McGovern but to no avail. Then in work it came on Radio Shropshire and Maggie said 'that's the song'. I listened to the deejay afterwards and he said Rita Macneill!

got a really eerie one in my head now, 'Torch' by Soft Cell. With those chord progressions and Marc Almond's slightly off key wail it has to be one of the eeriest songs from the 80s, along with Ghost Town. The antidote to Phil Collins or C*ck aching and Waterman.
