High end uprights and cheaper grands
This is partly inspired by the thread on the best
upright but seems a separate issue. Once prices reach 10k, some reasonable but not top quality grands
become affordable. For example a Yamaha SU-7 upright probably costs roughly the same as a Yamaha C3 grand.
It seems generally agreed that a
large enough grand - 6' or perhaps shorter - is
intrinsically superior to a tall upright of the same quality. Is there a view though on how high end uprights compare to grands of a similar price?

There is no competition really on touch on mid priced grand and a top priced upright the grand will win each time if prepped well. On tone yes some of the high end uprights out perform some the mid- range priced small grands Pianos like the SU-7 are aimed at players with a good ear but no space for a grand.
