Yamaha new/old

Post by hcuk2 »

I have a choice between two Yahmaha upright pianos of the same price, Ł1,400:

C108 - 2 years old including piano chair, delivery and free finance
C110 - brand new + ÂŁ100 delivery

Which is the better model? I can't seem to find anything online that would allow me to compare the two.

Hi, it was definitely a C108. The dealer removed the cover and showed me the model number stamped inside the piano.

Go for the C108.

It's a Japanese built instrument rather than a Chinese one. In practice not much difference in the build quality, but when selling on, a Jap-built one will hold value better..... Unless it's in a silly colour like white or "simulated mahogany colour" which is a plastic veneer of the type commonly used on 1970s "hi-fi" units. If they're both black, there's no contest. C108 every time.

The price of Ł1400 is too low for a new C110A. Your dealer is obviously cutting corners somewhere in order to eke out a meagre profit. I hate this practice of cut-throat discounting. It does the reputation of the pianos no favours because they're invariably badly prepared, no matter what the dealer will tell you. He's making bu**er-all profit on this deal, so what do you think he'll do when there's a warranty claim?

(As an aside, The new C109 is Indonesian-built, and actually worse than the C110A IMO.)

Not seen a 108 unless is pre 10 year a go as I never use to take note of what it was never mind what model

As to the price of the C110A the dealer may be dumping it to make way for the new models as no more C110A are coming in to the UK the last batch came in a few weeks ago and they have all now gone ….. well that is what a little bird told me

Yes, the C110A is to be replaced shortly, but there's still healthy demand, and since nobody outside the inner circles of the trade knows this, there's no reason to drop the price. In fact I'd be very surprised if the internet trader in question has ever *seen* a C110A let alone know that it's soon to be run out.
