It's a fairly well-known name over there in the states, but the vast majority of piano names are not on the internet. The number suggests 1907. If you search for smith barnes piano, Google gives thousands of items.

Hello everyone.....I have a wee bit of a problem! I jsut picked up an old piano for my daughter to take lessons on, and it appears to be QUITE old. The name of the company printed on the piano is "Smith & Barnes Piano Co Chicago".....I have searched and searched, and cannot find ANY information on this company! Is there anyone out there would could possibly help me with this or direct me somewhere that can? ANY information will be helpful. Serial # 85136. Thanks!

Thank you for this info! It is very helpful and interesting. I found out that my piano was made in 1907..so that's a start. It's a beautiful piano and we are enjoying it greatly.

Hello,
My first time posting here. I have a Smith and Barnes upright piano. Serial nr. is #55302. Can someone tell me when it was made and the approximate value, it is in reasonably good condition, just needs tuning. Any info would be helpful.

The number suggests 1903. See

Actually, the serial number is 66302 NOT 55302, I mis-read it, however if you can give me the information and age on 66302 I would appreciate it very much.

Hello, I am interested in your player piano. I live in Indiana but I could definately find a way to get it from you. Would you be willing to email me more information and photos of the piano? I just discovered a paper that shows where my Grandparents purchased a Player piano that was walnut in Aug. 1918
They paid 450.00 for it and I think it would be really neat to have a similar one in my home. I do have the serial number from my gparents...do you know the serial number of yours?

One more question?
I have a paper that says Willard Player Piano purchased Aug. 17, 1918 wood was walnut and it included 15 rolls of music. They paid 450.00 for it. Am I correct in assuming the manufacturer was Smith, Barnes, and Strohber Company??

I found this paper from my grandparents old papers and would love to see a picture of this piano. Does anyone have a sketch or picture of a piano that would look like this??
