U3 every time.

Preferably a UK market one, but an import if you must. The BS10 (never officially imported into the UK) is a 124cm piano which is more comparable to the U1. The action has a rather 'dead' feel typical of earlier Kawais. If you want a Kawai because you prefer the tone, buy a new K25 (the current U1 competitor) or larger.

I'm having the same dilemma - trying to choose between new Yamaha U3S or the Kawai K25/K50E. It's been while since I've spent much time playing but to my untrained ear the U3S sounded more resonant/warmer. Is there anything else I should be looking for - I'm hoping to keep this one for at least 5 yrs+. Grew up on a Bechstein Gran, but now find it too cool and unresponsive.

Thanks

Both makes are well made the Yamaha U3S has sostenuto pedal which the Kawai has not I do find that Kawais take more tunings to settle in but once they are there stay very well both use plastic parts (ABS) in the action at the end of the day if you need a sostenuto pedal then get the U3S if not then its down to price and tone

Many thanks for that - I'll try them both out a few more times, see how they feel for a few different pieces/tempos.

New piano, so excited ;-)
