Richard Lipp & Sohn

Post by Sjoerd »

Hello, I am new to these forums. I have a question about my piano, here it is: I have a piano which has 2 names on it, one is "Phonola Hupfeld" that is on the left side of the front of the piano. the other is "Richard Lipp & Sohn" which is on the right hand side of the piano. when I open the top of the piano and look inside I see 2 "crests" with a number under it, the number is: 38651 also on the right hand side inside the top of the piano the name Richard Lipp & Sohn is in it. i can post pictures if needed... I was wondering how old this piano is, and if it is special / rare and if you could give me an estimate of what it would be worth now. Looking forward to your response!

The piano was made by Lipp, and Hupfeld made the "Phonola" player piano action - to play music from paper rolls. Is it still in there? You don't mention it. The number suggests 1923. It would have been mass-produced, but no archives survive to tell us about individual pianos. See
