Basically, most piano teachers in this country use the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for examinations, but the Guildhall School of Music, Trinity College of Music and the London College of Music are also used extensively. There are eight grades in all these boards' systems, then there are a range of diplomas depending on whether the pupil wishes to teach or perform. If the ABRSM system is used, the pupil has to pass grade 5 in the Theory of Music before proceeding to Grade 6 practical. The ABRSM also offer a range of jazz piano exams.
The London College of Music offers a Leisure Play range of examinations, where some of the standard exam pieces are replaced by "cocktail" piano arrangements of old standard song (such as "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes") of a standard appropriate to the Grade which the pupil is taking. I believe the leisure play pupils are excused some of the technical parts of the exam, but their syllabuses (syllabi?!) are on the web, as are those of the other boards mentioned.
Good Luck!
