Yamaha UX1 vs U3 (not UX3)

Post by YamOzWA »

Hello

I'm looking to buy a late 1970s/ early 80s Yamaha (either UX1 or U3). I have read up on the Xs having cross brace, UX1 is 121 high vs U3 is 131 etc, and can find lots of comparisons between UX1 vs U1, and UX3 vs U3, but not UX1 vs U3.

I would appreciate people's views.

I've played both in stores and both are about the same price. The slight size difference is not a problem. I can't afford to go up to a UX3. I thought the bass sounded better on the the UX1 compared to cheaper U1s.

So I (think) I have narrowed it down to a UX1 or U3.

Views?

Thanks

Secondhand pianos are very difficult to comment on without seeing them it's an awful lot of variables.
On paper, the U3 should be a better piano because of the longer bass strings, but the condition of the strings determines its performance.

One thing you should be asking the retailers has the repetition springs (butt Springs) loops cord been changed. 1970s. Yamaha are notorious for loop cord perishing.
