Paterson, Sons & Co

Post by gmars70970 »

Hi everyone,

I have a Paterson, Sons & Co piano that has sat in the corner of my room for approx 20yrs now.
Would love to find some history on it. I've looked through the site and realize they changed their name a few times over the years.
I have no intention of selling it as my dad gave me it, would just like to know more about it.
I know it says Paterson, Sons & Co but could be a Chinese import for all i know.

Thanks in advance
Graeme

It would be useful to have the more obvious photo of the whole piano, to help me with dates.
The name was in use from 1858. The fact that it doesn't say "Ltd." suggests that it is before 1918, and it is certainly too old to be a Chinese import.
If you want to search inside the piano for clues, have a look at

I would guess this piano was made shortly after the first world war, but it could be twenties.
