Dust removal tools

Post by chrisw »

A friend has just upgraded his piano and is enquiring how best to keep a grand piano soundboard free of dust. Are there any tools designed to manoeuvre a duster below the strings and where might they be available from ? I have had a look in this website's piano accessory shop but if something was there I must have missed it.
Thank you.

The easiest way to keep the dust down on the soundboard is to get a damp tea cloth, roll it up and place it at the bottom left of the soundboard but not on the strings.
Close the man lid, remove the music desk get your best hairdryer set it to cold and blow all the dust to the back will it will blow down to the bottom and collect on the tea cloth.

As to products, there are a few.

Alternatively, you can (carefully) manoeuvre a microfibre cloth on the soundboard with a knitting needle - but not the pointy end :)
