Re-pinning a medium grand Hagspiel

Post by Rocket&Company »

Hello - I have a 19th century Hagspiel grand which needs restoring for my son to use. Apparently the strings are okay, but it does need re-pinning. Sound board is fine.
I liked the people who came to see it, but the quotation I was given seems a little high.
For cleaning the soundboard, bridges, and providing a new short prop-stick and re-pinning with existing strings and local (5 mile) pick up and delivery it comes to very nearly £5,000. That doesn't include attention to the keyboard and dampers - which will also need doing at some point.
Alas, I don't play - but would love to do up my mother's piano for my enthusiastic son to use. It's a beautiful burr-walnut medium grand - but is nearly £5k too much for just re-pinning? I would be very glad for any advice or opinions. Thank you
