Yamaha M-100?

Hiya, I've just been looking at a used Yamaha piano this evening. I was told by the owner that they bought it in 1989. Not sure if they bought it new or used though. They think its an M-100 (or that's what they were told by a piano tuner). Trouble is I can't find this model listed anywhere on the internet (apart from Hammond organ) so I'm wondering if they have the right model number. I've seen the photos of the M-108 and it looks pretty similar. The top lid (sorry if not the technical name) lifts at the front rather than at one end so I don't think its the M108. Its basically a matt beech finish. Although I'm no expert it seems to have a pretty good sound- especially considering it hasn't been tuned in a while. Anyone able to give me some advice on this one? Oh, just in case it matters I live in Switzerland so perhaps this explains the model number.

The M108 top lifts from the front too...... What picture have you been looking at? The 108 is the height in cm.

I suppose the one I went to see must be an M-108 then. Is that any good?

It looks old and American to me. It's certainly not a model we come across in the UK. Note the odd looking curl on the side panel next to the keyboard. Nasty styling! Typical of a piano produced for the US market. Are you sure that the one you were looking at had this feature?

If it's an M108, it's a locally produced variant. Check the height in cm...... I have a feeling that there *was* a model M100 sold in mainland Europe though..... Mainly in a wood finish.

The M108 is indeed a nice little piano. The later C108 and basic E108 were cheapened versions of the M, which was small but beautifully made.
