C.M. Schroder grand piano

I own a C.M. Schroder grand piano. It was built by Carl Schroder in his factory outside St Petersburg taken over by the revolution in 1918 and changing its name to Red October piano factory. I have not been able to get in touch with that factory neither with anyone who can help me find out when my piano was built and how it ended in Lima, Peru where my family got it in 1950, we do not know exactly how, and it was brought to Bogota, Colombia in quite a good musical shape although some how affected by humidity in the past. It actually works fine and sounds acceptable. It is a treasure for this family and we do not want to sale it but to learn about it.

Iam actually in the process of purchasing a C.M. Schroder ebonized grand piano, serial #24024.

Please advise if you have any information on the maker C.M. Schroder, and of any known source that could help identify the year this particular instrument was built.

Because we don't usually type the accent over the letter O, you may need to search for SCHROEDER, but I have no information other than that they were established in 1818. My list of serial numbers ends at 1870 with #17000, so I can only guess that yours is later. Most pianos have several numbers inside. In 1918, the name is said to have changed to Red Oktober.

As I said before, I have no information other than that they were established in 1818. The published numbers would suggest a date in the 1840s, which is obviously wrong, so without pictures of the whole piano itself, I can't tell you anything. Have a look at

I would guess this was made around 1911, the name suggests pre-1918, and it has that very tall case which suggests something before about 1920 anyway.

Probably the best chance of an accurate date is to get your tuner to remove the action to see if it is marked with the action makers' name and number. Some of these are listed at

I would guess early twenties, but I have no precise dates for Schroder. It seems that the name changed to Red Oktober in 1918, so presumably it is before that.

Nobody anywhere can guess the value or condition of a piano without inspecting it on the spot, and tuning it, so your local tuner is the best person to ask.
