Butcher piano forte
Hi, can anyone tell me about the piano forte I have,
the name on the front is Butcher (I think!!!)
Piano forte, 41 Great Titchfield Street, London. The piano is oblong, not the usual grand piano shape
Thank you.

Thomas Butcher was quite an early piano maker, and appears in our files at that address from about 1810 to 1845, but was gone by 1850. The same address was used at overlapping periods by Buckwell, and by Watlen & Challen.
It sounds like you have what is known as a Square Piano, like an oblong table with the keyboard let into the longer side. See
