Changes to the UK Piano Page
Post by Barrie Heaton »
We have made some changes to the site over the last 12 months
Some you can see others you cannot. We now have 2 firewalls we also force you to use https. We now have balanced servers which will speed up the site. Also, a robot trolling the site looking for bad files and hopefully blocking those who would try to hack the site.

Had to look up the meaning of internet bot and was really surprised that 75% of activity came from them.
Well done Barrie for developing the site.
I hope to be playing a piano in a community centre tomorrow which you regularly tune.

I am tuning the piano this Thursday if its the one at the S Army
The bots are a pain as they eat up bandwidth Some we need like Google bots but the rest are just trying to add spam or collect data to send users to spam if they get your email
Enjoy the piano

Barrie,
Over the last few days UK Piano Pages has failed to open properly in Safari. It is probably because the version is too old; I haven't updated it since buying this computer. It does open for me in Chrome.

Just took the wife's Mac book pro 2013 (Mavericks) into Weston computers in Preston today. To have it wiped cleaned and the new OS put on she is happy to pay the £69.00 saves me a job. She updates as soon as a new version is out, but she was complaining about the last big update "High Sierra" that it was slow to boot and was sluggish she has an imac as well and that is fine
Have been reading on the MAC forums that a wipe clean and a fresh install speeds up older MacBook pros I will let you know when we get it back
I must admit Mojave as first was a pain on my 27imac till some of the apps updated and I have to keep reindexing mail now but I do have emails going back to 1995 on my computer.

Barrie,
The following warning message is being displayed when I open the pages using either Safari or Chrome.
Warning: MagpieRSS: Failed to fetch https://www.piano-tuners.org/xml.php?ty ... d_listings and cache is off in /var/www/vhosts/rssdog.com/httpdocs/magpie/rss_fetch.inc on line 241
Sorry, could not fetch this feed! (items)
Also when Safari does manage to load up all of the forum index page, which it does intermittently, I am not able to log in.

Re: Changes to the UK Piano Page
Thanks Barrie,
I will have a look at updating my machine to Mojave. Do you know if I can do it myself ?
Visited the Morecambe Salvation Army hall yesterday to book next year's Morecambe Bay Piano group meetings. They told me about the piano being tuned and that the copper strings needed replacing, giving me the impression that it would be done in the not too distant future.
Wonder what makes the bass string degrade ? Some websites mention accumulation of dirt but I don't think I have seen anything about the effects of age or work hardening.

Yes they are happy to have the work done, just finding time to slot it in
As to the upgrade you go to It app store and it should be there on the front page, it a free upgrade.
if you want to do a clean install that is a tad more complex read
