Kirkman Baby Grand Piano

Post by Charles Cripwell »

I am viewing a baby grand Kirkman piano tonight with regard to buying it. It dates from the 1930's, and has Rosewood veneer finish. Apparently it was completely refurbished about 15 - 17 years ago with new strings and re-felted hammers.

Can anyone give any advice on whether the piano is likely to be a desirable model, considered to be a quality instrument, and if possible, an idea of value.

Many thanks

Kirkman is a famous name for antique pianos, but has no particular value in this period. Baby grands are often desirable, but rarely quality instruments, they usually have inferior actions and limited tonal quality. What you need is someone to inspect it on the spot.

Thank you for your reply. I viewed the piano last night, and whilst in good condition, it was not particularly elegant. Will search further and investigate other makes
