Weber square grand
Post by Washington State »
My family has a beautiful Weber rosewood square grand piano which we may need to sell due to a move. Family folklore states that it came "around the Horn" of South America earlier this century. It now resides in Longview, Washington, near the Pacific Coast. The sound quality is poor, but the piano is in otherwise in excellent condition. Would you be so kind as to advise me to the best way to market such a piece? And how much might I expect considering its present condition?

I appreciate your information. I have found a website which has a photo of the piano. If you are inclined, you can find it at:

Mostly, I am wondering how best to sell such a piano.

It sounds interesting. but I feel duty-bound to point out that almost every early piano I hear of from the states is reputed to have come round the Horn! When it comes to definite facts, all you have given me "Weber square", do you have any serial numbers, full name and other wording, such as town, country of origin etc.? I don't know which of the many Webers this is. See

I presume the date 1882 on that example is based ion its number, what number is yours? I have no idea how you sell a piano over there. Unfortunately, although I am endlessly fascinated by victorian pianos, there is very little market for them in the UK. I understand things are better in the states.

Unfortunately, we cannot find a date anywhere on the piano.
The more research I do, the more I understand how one can be fascinated with these types of pianos. It is a beautiful piece of furniture. It is too bad that its virtually useless as a musical instrument unless it is restored. I'm pretty sure the market here in the US is about as pitiful as the UK!
Thank you so much for your help and your timely responses. May God bless you in what you do for others!
