New Piano

Hello Everyone

My family has had a challen piano for a number of years, we are in the process of identifying possibly 3 dealers we can select a new piano from. My wife has raised a question 'when we purchase from the dealer are we being sold the piano we are seeing in the shop or do we take delivery of an un-boxed piano?' I presume its the former

You are the customer and you tell the dealer what you want not the other way round(I.m a dealer!)

Bear in mind the one from the box may not play exactly as the shop one does. You can also suggest the dealer gets a new one for you to choose,providing you contract to buy one of them.
By the way they don't arrive in a box but by a specialised piano carrier.
You would be advised to prefer the shop floor one as it should have had a couple of tunings there and be a bit settled

Definitely. I recently went to a Steinway dealer just for fun. There were 4 Steinway O grand pianos in a row and each was different in sound, touch and action. One should try the pianos in the shops of a couple of dealers, think a couple of weeks and then decide which one to buy. I would never blind-order a piano from the factory.

Agree, but there is such a wide choice of dealers and instruments - you may call it a buyers' market - that it should be possible to find another piano that suits in that case. I just wanted to point out that a quick and false decision may lead to dissatisfaction once the instrument is at home.
