John Spencer & Co Piano

Post by Seclusion »

Hi,

I am about to purchase a John Spencer & Co upright piano. I have no idea on age and I haven't played piano for 13-15 years so quality of sound is beyond my now untrained ears.

I've searched Google and have come up with little to nothing on these pianos. I would like to know the quality of them, a review or anything of the like.

Can anyone help me? I know more information would be good but unfortunately until I have it here I won't be able to provide any...

Blimey, a whole dollar; you ought to be careful splashing your money about like that... :)
I tune LOADS of John Spencers, and they were very well made despite not being top-range instruments. One which I tune regularly has been lugged from England to Australia and back, the soundboard is in several bits, mice have been in it - and it STILL tunes to concert pitch with no trouble. Not bad for an 1897 instrument...
If you can find out the serial number we can give you a date for it, but on the whole they were workhorses capable of plodding on for years. Of course, a lot depends on how well it's been looked after, but if the neglected one I do is anything to go by, your dollar will be well spent... I hope you get free delivery, stool and first tuning for your money...
