Brooklyn Piano W. Teague

I have an upright Brooklyn Piano.
On the label it says

Brooklyn Piano Co
W. TEAGUE
69 UNION ST

The serial number of it is 10162,

if anyone knows about this piano, any info, please let me know

Originally, around 1890, there was no firm called Brooklyn, the pianos were made by Green & Savage, London, and their trade mark was 3 organ pipes. In the 1900s, they adopted the Brooklyn name for the company, probably in much the same way that the Stroud Piano Co. later adopted the name Bentley because it was successful for them.

1911 #14,100 Brooklyn Piano Co. upright dated by the number of its Schwander action of the same type which Schwander made in 1895, type SLHR, with the set-off screw engaging on a rolling roller. Keys made by Wicking & Chivers.

If you can inspect the action, and it is by Schwander, the number should tell me its date. All I can say so far is that it is probably before 1911. Teague was the retailer...

In 1899, William Teague was at 69 Union Street, Ryde, Isle of Wight.

I don't know much about the piano, but researching family history. William Teague was my Great-great Grandfather :) And my father lives in Brooklyn...insignificant to many, very meaningful to us.

I am sorry I know very little about Teague, but I will have a look through the 1900s lists. I don't think the name Brooklyn has any real significance.

Hi, I became an owner of a William Teague piano last month. I don't know much about it other than it was made for William Teague in Ryde. Is there any way of finding out it's age? I have tried phoning a few piano places but the piano isn't listed. It is rather beautiful with candlestick holders and flower inlay. Any info would be gratefully received.

I take it this is nothing to do with Brooklyn? Nobody can tell you anything about an individual piano just from the name..

If you can post photos to show what the whole piano looks like, I may be able to tell you more.

Hi, there is no mention of Brooklyn on the piano that I can see. However, 'manufactured for William Teague, Ryde' is on the label - so not sure if there is a connection with Brooklyn as mentioned by other posts. I am having the piano tuned mid January, so I hope that it tunes up ok. Is there a place where I should be looking for a date stamp?

The general page should have shown you that it is a typical Edwardian piano, and I would guess it was made around 1906. If you want to search inside the piano for clues, have a look at
