Re: Age of my Rudolf Stelzhammer piano

No dates of Stelzhammer's serial numbers are available. My active research is aimed at antique British pianos, so anything else that arrives is a matter of luck, and I have no funding for Viennese research. Sadly, there does not seem to be an equivalent service for Viennese pianos, but if you would like to email photos to me, I may be able to tell you a little more.

Thanks, but it is no good if people click straight onto your link and cannot speak your language.
There are many such lists in English, and anyway, many of the lists of serial number dates repeated by books and websites are incorrect or misleading. For more information, see
http://www.pianohistory.info/numbers.html
Furthermore, there is a huge number of names on your list about which NO proper, reliable dates are available. The translation says...
Full list of serial numbers - IT IS NOT!
Full list of manufacturers and brands of pianos and grand pianos that year can be checked using the serial number. IT IS NOT!
For example, how would you date Challenger #12800? I'd love to see your lists for Barnes, Murdoch, Normelle, Jarrett & Goudge and others, I need a good laugh.
