Emil Ascherberg Dresden, hand-painted Art Grand
Hello,
looking for help in reference to an Emil Ascherberg Dresden hand painted Baby Grand piano, circa 1890?? This piano appears to be one of a kind. I understand from reading the other posts, the factory was destroyed including records. This piano is a piece history and the art work may be a clue as to its history and past. This piano was photographed and is on the internet as lot #419 listed as a German hand painted Satinwood Baby Grand Art Piano. It was listed as a live auction May 18, 2014, but the auction never happened and it was donated to raise funds for a local organization in New Jersey. It now sits collecting dust and I am trying to help them identify it. It does appear to be in great shape, keys are all in tact and it plays decent. Please view those photo's. There is a profile/ left view of a female in short hair not listed in the photo's from the lot. I can send one photo that I took with my phone of that female. A local piano shop is not interested in it. Any direction or help identifying it is greatly appreciated. Thank you,
Ken

You didn't show any photos, so if you have trouble posting them here, you can email to me to post. There is no tangible information in your message that would help me to tell you anything useful. Even if there is a serial number in there, it will not help, because we have no information about dates of Ascherberg numbers, so I will depend on seeing pictures that show what the whole piano looks like on the outside.
It was possibly 1883 that they were taken over and became Ascherberg Perzina. Here in Britain, unrestored pianos of this age usually have very little value, and I am offered several each year for nothing just to save them from destruction. I can't speak for the States. Unique artwork is only of value if someone thinks it good.
Nobody anywhere can guess the value or condition of a piano without inspecting it on the spot, and tuning it, so your local tuner is the best person to ask. If your tuner can inspect the action, there may be the action makers' name and number, and I may be able to date this.

This piano seems to fit the description ....
https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/26 ... -art-piano
The piano may be date stamped inside on part(s) of the mechanism, but may require a piano technician to remove it safely and check inside thoroughly.... maybe further clues if the music tray is removed. The working mechanics inside - like that of a clock - usually reveal other features.
It may have been restrung at some stage, and the gold gilt on the frame doesn't look the right colour - I also suspect the tapered (cone) frame bolt screws have been sprayed over?
