Help identifying unbranded piano
Post by Randomizer »
There is a piano for sale in my local area and it is surprising cheap. It looks like it could be Yamaha of some sort but I'm not 100% sure. There is no branding as they have painted the piano with ghastly black gloss, why do people do this? It's not in the best condition but for the price it could be a very good piano to flip, if it actually turns out to be a Yamaha.
Thanks

Look inside. We can't tell anything from the outside, it's not even clear whether it's overstrung or not. If it's a Yam it'll have the insignia (crossed tuning forks) cast into the frame in the middle at the top and probably something like 'Yamaha Nippon Gakki' as well as a serial number. The frame is your best pointer to a manufacturer.
I play for my own amazement...

Can't see enough-not even the pedals.
Please remove the front and then the dog can see the rabbit.

Looks straight strung to me.... left key block narrow like RH one.
Possibly 1930s
Best to check the tuning/ pin torque if you intend to keep the piano - ask a tuner to check it over.
If the piano has previously been condemned (you never know).... or unable to be tuned, then this may be why its a "get rid" price ?? .... there is no such thing as a "surprisingly cheap" piano.... you may pay the price later, starting with the removal bill. Best to get it looked over.
