Piano Value
Post by pianoguy0216 »
Hello, I'm looking for some insight on what my piano might be worth. It's a London Knight Piano, serial # 39695, real ivory keys, made in England, soundboard is made from genuine Roumanian Spruce.
Novice evaluation but I would rate condition about 9 on a scale of 1-10. Any help on the value is much appreciated! Thank you!

Re: Piano Value
You will need to get a tuner/technician to evaluate the condition before putting a price on it. bear in mind it's 50 years old. I doubt it has ivory keys at that age. Can't remember Knights offering them

Ignore the key in my hand.
Key tops here are ivory.... see the join (line) between the head and tail.
If there is no join, they may be grained celluloid or plastic.
(I've seen whole ivory tops, but that's quite rare)

Ha!.... had fun n games with this piano. 5 ivories had been bodged with odd celluloid coverings (one in my hand), and the only thing I can think is that they forced the chipped ivory off my shoving a screw driver through the key bushing hole! .... some of the wood on other keys was all gouged out/ key stop rail snapped in half, and fallboard edges dented as the screw driver was wedged between to get the screw driver under the BACK of the tails! .... they didn't take the key blocks off, all in situ. This was the Erard.

Re: Piano Value
why do we get involved with these old pianos.
We're nearly finishing an old Bech upright that we have dabbled with for over a year.
Unfortunately, a previous owner seems to have tried fitting a pedal board as the whole undercarriage is riddled with holes with large chunks of the cheeks gnawed off.
The whole Bech unique pedal work has been severely re designed so I hope I can restore order there.
