Looking for Steinway 90776 (upright 1898)

Post by pga »

Does anyone know of the whereabouts of Steinway number 90776, upright ebonised style 1 (=model E) of 1898? An early known owner was a Mrs Hunter, 25 Wynnstay Gdns, London, who bought it in 1902.

Hi Peter

There are usually no records of previous ownership of a piano - even Steinway.... bit like selling or buying a 2nd hand sofa or TV. Serial numbers don't give this information & not passed on. It is usually up to the individual owner/ buyer to make their own records, so passing on invoices/ repair quotes etc can be useful evidence for future reference.

Thanks, Colin: I am not really looking for any previous owner(s), but the piano itself and its current owner, as it has an early history of interest to me.

So I give the serial number as its ID (in case someone here can spot its continued existence), and a last-known owner on the even more distant chance that someone still alive acquired/inherited it from her or knew her, or may be similarly moved to check the serial number of a piano that they know.
