Info on G. S. Bosworth & Son Leicester?

A friend has an old 85 key grand by this maker and it has s sticky key. She is wondering if it's worth fixing or selling and buying a newer piano?

Hi there,
The Bosworth gold lettering on the right side of the lid is not the maker's name.... this will be a previous retailer/ piano shop who sold the piano. This lettering is often used as an advertisement for the shop.
Unless the name has been removed during a re-polish - this will be in the middle of the lid either as a decal or brass inlaid.

Fixing one sticking key is an easy job if the front bushing needs easing; if the centre bushing/ rail pin needs easing, the mechanism may need to be removed first to get the key out.... but I wouldn't have thought that this simple repair job would depend on keeping the piano? Ask your local piano tuner to look at it, if it doesn't need tuning, then may just charge a call-out fee.

Yes, Danemann is the maker's name.... a respected name in the piano industry, but all depends on condition. They were later taken over by Broadwood & Sons. I've tuned several (upright & grands), and tune well.

Not all pianos have their name on the frame, some have both frame & lid (fallboard), others just lid. Some have their name on the soundboard, under the strings. You can also buy gold decal letters (or a transfer kit) to reinstate the name on the lid if it is missing.
