J.J Hopkinson - Help?
Post by Charlie2106 »
Hi,
Hoping somebody can help, I've been left this beautiful piano and whilst I am a competent amateur I have no idea about its history or age etc. we guess it's from around 1920 but may be wildly out and have been told it's an upright grand but I'm not sure that's right - I've never heard of one!
Any information you can give me would be hugely appreciated!
It would be even better if someone could tell me how to post the photos...

There were some very early types which were like a grand piano turned on its end, as shown at
http://www.pianohistory.info/victorian.html
but in general, the term "Upright Grand" is merely trying to hype up a perfectly ordinary upright, and imply some comparison to the tone of a grand.
If you have a look near the bottom of my Edwardian page at
http://www.pianohistory.info/edwardian.html
you will see that your piano has probably been modernised, but it would help me if I could see the whole piano.
If you open the top and look inside, you may be able to find one or more numbers that might give us a date.

If you want to search inside the piano for clues, have a look at

Hi, thanks for your help!
I found this number on the inside but can't find anything in your links that give me a clue, where do I go next?

That number suggests that it was made around 1913.
