Elbstein

Hi Everyone
I have just been lucky enough to be given (well, swapped for a bottle of rum!) an ELBSTEIN upright piano. I don't play but my son is very musical (Clarinet, Saxophone, Flute and Bass guitar) and my daughter plays Trumpet. As you can see from the photo's below, it's seen better days but I'm wondering about restoring it myself and if it is worth it?(I can't really afford to pay a lot to get it restored and I don't want to ruin something that may be worth paying to get restored! If it's a thing of beauty and rare, then I will save up, if it's worth a few hundred quid, I may rub it down and do it myself ) I think the piano is around 1930/40's from the curves on it(I am waffling here but it looks like the 30/40's era!!) made by a German company (Elbstein) but can't find anything anywhere about the maker!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thankyou in advance!!!

If you have a look near the bottom of my Edwardian page at
http://www.pianohistory.info/edwardian.html
you will see that this piano has been modernised, and I have no evidence of a real maker by this name. On my Names page
http://www.pianohistory.info/names.html
it states that many fake piano names have "Stein" in them. Any historical importance it may have had was destroyed when they hacked it about, stripped the polish off, and fitted a fake name.
It was probably worth a bottle of cheap rum!!

Thats fantastic!!! Thank you for the info!!!
I don't intent to take any of it apart.....I will save up for a pro to do that!! I just intend to strip the wood, make any repairs on the case and re-finish!!
