Grade 3 practical

Cutlet has has grade 3 next Monday, 23 March, she's nervous and excited in about equal measure! I'm very proud of her, she's put in a huge amount of work. With the day getting close, she's practicing like she really means it! Whatever the result, she'll be getting a treat for all her hard work.

How old is she? Mind you, by G3 she at least knows the form, bless her. I'm sure she'll play beautifully - GO, CUTLET!

Thanks, Gill and Dave, she's 9 years old and an awful lot more talented than me!

She must be pretty darn good at reading music if she does accompanying. I had a letter from my teacher last week about her end of term concert and she said everyone must have a go at accompanying if they possibly can do so. Karen (one of Mabel's other adult students) accompanies her children who play stringed instruments.

Sight-reading is one of her weaker bits, but we dug out a grade 1 piece that she'd played ages ago and had forgotten and got her to play it, she had to stare intently at the music while she played it slowly and she did really well. So, we were able to say after that "See? You can sight read!" I know it wasn't exactly true, but it gave her confidence no end of a boost!

Her last lesson today before the exam. It's a good job you need short nails for the piano, hers are chomped to bits now, mine too

Phew, all done! Now, the wait begins! She was all smiles when she came out of there though. x

Good girl, sounds hopeful then! Does she get wound up about exams or just take them in her stride?

Result in time for Easter hopefully.

She gets wound up by exams and then just does it! She seems to be able to play on the day - a performer! She gets very stressed before the exam and, like before, she's now floating on a sea of buzzingness(?) she wants to do it all again! And, as DB says, results in a couple of weeks.

Ah, same list as one of mine who wants to do it this summer, but is not going to get entered until she realises that however valid your reason may be for not practising this week - or last week or next week - it's not going to be a get-out clause for not being able to play your pieces.

Having said that, I had a boy yesterday who I was really regretting allowing myself to be talked into entering for LCM step 2, as he had been making zilch progress, and he turned up and played everything to a good merit level with 2 weeks to go.

I seem to remember getting the same mark as Cutlet when I did my grade 2 in 2009.
