Yamaha Grand Piano

Post by Elios »

HI,

I got a Piano from an old friend which is Yamaha Grand Piano with the following markings N55579 No.20 Nippon Gakki S.K.K.
Made in Japan.

I would like to know the price and year of such Piano, and is it a good Piano?

Regards

I expect someone will be able to tell you the year, but nobody anywhere can guess the value or condition of a piano without inspecting it on the spot, and tuning it, so ask your local tuner.

The number 55579 would mean it was made in 1953. But the 'N' prefix is a bit unusual. Yamaha piano serial numbers with a letter prefix usually mean it was made outside Japan and the prefix letters I've come across, which have been in use since at least the 1960/70s, don't include an 'N'. Then again, if it says that it was made by Nippon Gakki (an older name Yamaha used until the 1980s) in Japan, I would say that's were it was made.

If you have a look at the action without removing it, there may be a date, but this number preceded by N is an unknown quantity to me.
