Cats, dogs and other animals

We seem to be talking a lot about cats these days on here, so I thought we could have a proper thread for matters canine and feline, possibly even vulpine and quite possibly equine or bovine.

My Sophie Anne (cat, 18 1/2 years old) has a very strange taste for things you wouldn't expect a carnivorous creature to have, like green beans and muesli. Not too keen on cat food that's too cheap and smelly though!

Can't do pics, but I have a 7 year old cat, Tuppence; 2 maladjusted rabbits who want to turn the garden into a replica of the Somme; and 2.1 chickens (the point one of a chicken is a tiny but v. loud chick who hatched during the night!)

I came down the stairs today and there was Sarah Jane sat perched at the end of the radiator, with Soph sat on the floor staring up at her. I had to sneak quietly back upstairs quietly and get the camera. Unfortunately I cannot upload it due to me being near my data limit AGAIN until after the 20th

Do your chickens yield many lovely free range ova for the cupboards Gill, and your rabbits both the same sex???

And if Tuppence is only 7, he'd be two new pence, wouldn't he??? My wife would take a greater interest in Tuppence, she loves a neighbour's cat, who is called Potter.

Tuppence is a shemale...Queen of the house (I'm a poor second).
I only have one chicken that lays, but if the new Nugget proves to be a shemale we might have some more eggies. Which will please The Mothership who loves them.

What colour is Tuppence then?? Eggs have shot up in price over the past few months so here's rather hoping for an extra hen for you. I'd love to build a chicken run in the back garden but our neighbourhood has loads of wild cats and foxes so would not be ecologically viable.

There's a house near the bottom of our road that has four tabby kittens. I'm going to have to get into the habit of carrying a camera as they're very photogenic cats, moreso than Sophie and Sarah Jane.

Tuppence is a tortoiseshell. Or I believe some people call them Calico (merkins, usually). She's got white bits as well as ginger & black.
I believe Nugget (new chick) is female, the more I look. When I can get past the overprotective ma!

That's nice. You must post a photo of Tuppence online if you can, Gill. How is she as regards to pianos, I wonder? Can she instantly tell if you've forgotten to close the keyboard lid???

She's not fond of the piano so doesn't play Britten on it much... We had to take her to the vet today with an abscess on her bum, poor girl. First visit since she was a kitten; not impressed! How's Sophie doing?

Eve Boswell came to mind just now whilst I was preparing some nice tasty meals for Sophie and Sarah Jane from yesterday's roast leftovers. She's fine thanks, being quite naughty as I type.......

We found our neighbours' black cat on our lawn this morning suffering a heart attack (we didn't know it at the time) So we put him in our cat carrier and took him round to Wendi's but it was too late. At the vets she had to have him euthanised. Wendi's just been round and told us.

Any later and she wouldn't have had the chance to say a proper farewell as he would have died on the back lawn (he was very keen on our garden)

RIP Potter. Will miss scooping your jobbies from my vegetable patch...

God, what a horrible thing for you to witness. Still, as you said, had you not been in then she wouldn't have known. RIP Potter...

Her two girls didn't like it, especially her eldest. Potter was her father's surname. They also have a sort of albino male cat which they don't usually let out.

White cats are often deaf and therefore a liability on the roads. Probably why he's kept in.

I went down stairs just now to feed Sophie and Sarah, there was Sarah waiting for her food bot unusually no sign of Sophie. So I fed Sarah and afterwards I shut the kitchen door and looked behind all the sofas and shelves for Soph but no sign alas. So I go upstairs and look to no avail so I come back down. It seems whilst I was checking all the rooms upsrairs Sarah had climbed onto the radiator in the lounge, puked her food up over some chean laundry I had drying on there and Sophie was there eating up all of Sarah's regurgitate.

My cats have an IQ between that of a mule and a member of the English Defence League!

Two dogs, one remaining cat out of the 3 we adopted 10 years ago, she was microchipped in 1995, so is at least 20 years old now. Just 6 chickens left after we lost another to micoplasma last month - Ginny, Hermione, Blackberry, Holly, Ivy and Beautiful Babs. Love 'em all.
