Advice on august forster

Hello i am looking for a piano to buy for my daughter last week i finally found a beautifull august forster piano with the number 101503
Of course it need to be tuned but otherwise i show it to the piano teacher and she said it will be ok after tuning now i have togive them an offer what is a reasonable offer to give for that piano?

This is a history forum. Nobody can guess the value or condition of a piano without inspecting it and tuning it. The fact that it needs tuning does not prove that it is capable of being tuned.

So how can I know if it can be tuned before I make a decision
I called a tuner but he is asking for a very high price for inspection
When does it happen that a piano cannot be tuned?
I checked the number and found that this piano was made between 44 and 52 does it help to have that information ?

Nothing helps us to judge anything from here. Nobody can advise you without checking the piano.

To pay a "high price" to a tuner may save you Hundreds(Thousands?) of pounds( depending on your currency) in the long run.
It will be a wise precaution to take.

How much is the "high price"?

Best to ring a few piano tuners for their quotes, rather than just contact one tuner.
Then work out the best deal.... and they will be able to tell you if the piano is tuneable or not. Main causes of pianos unable to be tuned:-
1. Very loose tuning pins
2. Major crack or damage to wrest plank
3. Mechanism not working correctly
4. (Overdamped pianos) - many bridle tapes broken.

Few other things aswell.... but a tuner will know.
