Double iron frame

Hello!

I am new here.
Years ago I tuned an upright, which was British made, but I do not remember the brand name. It was built with an extra iron frame on the back, very heavy.
Does anyone here have information about such an instrument?

I have just seen one upright with a back frame before, the old Steinway R.
Do you know if it possible to get more information about Monington & Weston?
Here in Sweden British pianos and grands are quite rare. They were known to have a pleasent tone, but they were sensitive to our coold dry winters. Like the Fazioli.

Good to see you posting here. I had one of those uprights in my shop a few years ago. Good solid build and one other thing I noted besides the double plate assembly was the very slim profile of the instrument. This model did not protrude from the wall as much as the usual upright does.
The double plate design I have named it the iron sandwich with wood filling.

The Steinway R, wasn't that replaced with the model K at one point? We have a Canadian upright that was built with the same double plate design feature.

Barrie, do you know of any other English pianos that have the double plate assembly?

Hello Dan!

Yes, after the "R" came the "T" which later was changed to the "K" model.
The "R" model was on the Titanic.

Not that know off. Bill may. Monigington did a grand as well. Did Chickering pianos in the US make one a grand with a Double iron frame

Hi Barry,
My apologies I did not notice this further posting. I have no idea if Chickering made a piano with the double plate. That would not be a surprise as Chickering was a company that often experimented with different designs.
