Serial Number of my U1

Post by Danicun »

Hi,

I have a Yamaha U1, serial number H 1920942. I think that means it was made in 1974-75 but don't know what the H is for. Do you know?

I don’t know that one

  • No pre fix is Japan
    E is Europe
    C is Chinese
    J is Indonesia
    H could be the US
The number would date around that time however, having a prefix will mean different dates take the year 2004
  • E319356
    C70782
    6096212
    J2111081
Each production centre has their own set of numbers you will have to contact Yamaha would be interesting to know where the H prefix is meant for

U1H pianos are Japanese. The H is merely the series.

1965-66 ish.

It's an old piano now, and most dealers in s/h Yamahas will sell a 1985 model (some twenty years younger than yours) for about GBP2500 give or take a few hundred. If yours is old enough to have the huge YAMAHA badge on the right hand side of the top door instead of just the one on the fall above the keys, you may find that you have to accept a low price for it, say about GBP900 to 1100.

Pianos of this age often have dead bass strings and rotten loop cords on the hammers, as the esteemed A440 will tell you.

Why sell it? it's probably still a good old piano to play. Are you upgrading?
