Barratt & Robinson grand

Post by annelouise »

I have acquired a small grand piano, Barratt and Robinson. The serial number is 4541. Just trying to find out how old it is.

I don't think I can help you unless any of our other posters have any ideas. Their grands don't seem to conform to B&R numbers, and I suspect they only made uprights, and bought in the grands from another factory. You may find some clues at

Thank you, the link you provided is a very interesting one.

It hadn't occurred to me that the piano may have been made by another firm.
I can't find any other identifying marks on the piano so the whole thing is a mystery. I do hope someone can shed some light on this but in the meantime, I am enjoying the sleuthing, because I am learning a great deal about pianos in the process!
Many thanks for your time.

I realised that I have assumed this is a modern grand, but Barratt & Robinson have been around a long time, so if you could post some photos of the whole piano here, or email them to me, we may be able to tell you more.

Thank you, Bill.
I bought the piano from a piano tuner who also restores pianos. Because it was repolished the actual name is no longer there, however the same tuner has looked after it for quite a few years. On his estimate the piano is approximately 70 years old.
As soon as I can I will get some photos to you, thank you very much for your advice.
