Name this Piano

Post by raheen »

Hi All,

Have been offered this Piano from an elderly neighbour, obviously its a Schumann but apart from that are there any tell tale signs of age, model, where it was made. I have done a search on these and apparently they are now made in China? Asking price is 500 AUD or in your currency about 350 Pounds

Yes.... looks like a Chinese export budget piano. They are ok.... cheap n cheerful and usually last about 20 years. The name "Schumann" is obviously renamed, and companies often use composers names, names of well-known German towns and cities.... but the pianos are far from being German!

500 bucks is very reasonable. I have just recently returned from NSW, and if the weather it hot, get the tuning pins checked out by a piano tuner.

Age....? cant tell with everything closed up - need to see the mechanism/ strings etc - so if you can remove the top panel (sometimes attached to the fall lid) - it may give us a rough clue to its age.

No model numbers for these - just "blank" box standard polyester pianos with a name added on with a stencil kit.

Hope that helps

Schumann piano

Post by cszami »

Dear Piano experts,

I would be very grateful if you could advice whether this piano for sale is likely genuine and whether it is of good quality. I am planning to check it out tomorrow. I can see few similiar looking pianos on the internet and this one for sale for a while in spite of looking quite attractive that make me a bit cautious.

Thanks a lot in anticipation!

Ask the guy when was it last tuned and by who, give the tuner a ring and see if they have put any negative comments in their notes

if they can't remember the piano get them to come and look at it
