I have a John Broadwood Piano bought in 1971 and would like know whether the keys are made of ivory or plastic? Can anyone tell me?

Ivory will be a creamy white with a hair line join accross the keys leval with the front of the sharps/flats. They are probably plastics.

you can often get a piano that's ivories are laid so well that you can't see the join. We've got in stock a beautiful Danemann grand with that feature. Of course, some have ivories in one piece, hence no join.
It's easy to tell however;
scratch the side of the "ivory" after depressing a key and you can smell whether it's plastic,celluloid or ivory.
Alternatively, you can apply a match to the "ivory" and if it explodes it was celluloid.
Our mission in life is to tune customers--not pianos.

Any fool can make a piano-- it needs a tuner to put the music in it
